Seniors/Retirees to meet

The Seniors/Retirees of Pueblo West will host their monthly potluck luncheon at 11:30 this morning at Memorial Recreation Center, 230 George St.

Bring a dish to share and own table service, and a guest. Coffee and tea will be provided.

Following the luncheon, View Editor Loretta Sword will talk about her career and answer questions.

Horse-riding clinic

The Optimist Club of Pueblo west will offer a Learn to Ride horse clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 21 at 663 Spaulding Ave., near Pueblo West High School.

The events intended for children ages 9-13 and costs $20. There will be five sessions of one hour each with a maximum of 20 students. Reservations are necessary and may be made by calling Diana at 647-2823.

Cooks share recipes

Members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church have collected 260 recipes in a new cookbook called "Sharing Our Best."

The books will be available soon at a cost of $11 at the church, 275 W. John Powell Blvd. Shipping costs, if necessary, will be $2.50.

Proceeds from book sales will go to the church's new building fund.

Here's what's going on next week at the White Branch Library:

Time for Tots - Stories for children ages 2-4, 10 and 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Preschool Storytime - Stories for children 18 months to 2 years old, 10 and 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

PW Baptist groundbreaking

Pueblo West Baptist Church will break ground for an addition to the church after Sunday's 11 a.m. worship service.

The first phase of the project will include new Sunday school classrooms, a nursery, offices, restrooms and a large fellowship center. The second phase will be a new worship center.

A dinner, for $4 a person, will follow the groundbreaking ceremony. The public is invited, and reservations are encouraged.

Pueblo West Baptist Church was founded in 1973 in a building donated by Pueblo West ranchers and "pioneer" residents Arthur and Rose Ann Stegall.

Archuleta's work on display

The work of Pueblo West artist and author Reuben Archuleta will be on display from 4-8 p.m. Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday as part of the Spanish Art Market at Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs.

The event will include the work of 30 Hispanic artists from Colorado and New Mexico who specialize in retablos, bultos, pottery, straw inlay and mosaics, furniture, weaving, tin work, jewelry and colcha embroidery.

Art fans also will be treated to guitar music, Ballet Folklorico performances, a reception and an awards ceremony on Saturday.

UFO Connections

UFO Connections will meet at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Lamb Branch Library, 2525 S. Pueblo Blvd. in Pueblo.

The program will include a viewing of "The Phoenix Lights," a documentary about low-altitude flights of numerous UFOs over a period of weeks during the spring of 1997 in Phoenix, Ariz. The film Includes interviews with scores of individuals who witnessed the repeated flights, which continue today.

Attendees are invited to gather at a local restaurant for further sharing after the meeting. Trout Unlimited meeting

The Southern Greenbacks Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Inc. will meet at 7 o'clock tonight in the Jones-Healy Realty Building, 119 W. Sixth St. in Pueblo.

Elections for 2007 board members and other items of interest to the group's mission to “conserve, protect and restore Colorado’s trout fisheries and their watersheds” will be on the agenda.

The evening’s program will feature Scott Hobson, Pueblo senior land use planner and Arkansas River Legacy Project coordinator. Hobson will discuss “What’s Next? A Tour of the Future on the River Corridor.”

The Legacy Project, funded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Great Outdoors Colorado and others, has added value to the river corridor as a location for recreation and wildlife conservation, and is enjoyed by Pueblo residents and visitors alike.

Hobson will talk about planned future projects that will augment what has been already completed.

Pregnancy center fundraiser

A Caring Pregnancy Center's annual fundraiser banquet is set for Nov. 3 at the Pueblo Convention Center. The guest speaker will be Nancy Titoni Montoya.

A silent auction will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the banquet at 7 p.m. Dinner is complimentary.
