Pot rush doesn’t budge council

Ban to be readdressed in March

Long lines outside stores in Pueblo, Denver and elsewhere. People cheering as fellow customers hold up bags of legally purchased marijuana. Thousands of people driving into Colorado just to buy pot.

The Pueblo City Council watched and heard it all Wednesday, but no one was in a hurry to drop the current city moratorium on commercial pot sales. That ban expires in March.

“I agree with (police Chief Luis Velez) that we should wait and see how this goes,” said Council President Steve Nawrocki. “When you think how long people have been trying to get marijuana legalized in this country — for a couple of generations at least — I really wasn’t surprised by the crowds.”

Councilman Chris Kaufman doesn’t want commercial pot sales in Pueblo. Period.
