Board OKs $8.8 million worth of work
Two local contractors to do work at four schools
Two local contractors were awarded contracts Tuesday night for Pueblo County District 70 bond projects at four schools.
The board approved the contract for just a little under $3.9 million to H.W. Houston Construction Co. for work at Prairie Winds Elementary and Skyview Middle schools.
Ryan Elarton, director of business services, said the bid was $205,000 below the district’s projected cost.
The projects at Prairie Winds include adding a secure front entrance, adding seven new classrooms, relocating the playground and driveway and installing security fences.
At Skyview, the work will include a secured front entrance, classroom addition and secured fencing.
The second contract the board awarded was to Arc Valley Construction for a little more than $4.9 million for projects at Liberty Point Elementary and Liberty Point International Middle schools.
Elarton said the contract came about $138,000 under budget.
The work at Liberty Point Elementary consists of adding a secured entrance, construction of 10 new classrooms and renovation of the existing restrooms.
Liberty Point International’s projects include a new secured entrance, six new classrooms and renovation of existing restrooms.
