Local briefs: Food program offered

Food program offered

Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado will partner with Chavez/Huerta K-12 Preparatory Academy to operate a Healthy Kids Club Program.

Chavez/Huerta is the only school in Pueblo to offer the program, which delivers free, nutritious snacks and suppers to students, accompanied by after-school enrichment activities.

The Healthy Kids Club Program food is funded through the Colorado Department of Human Services. This year, Care and Share will provide more than 65,000 snacks to children in need.

Chavez/Huerta will launch the program in August.

Rivera to meet voters

George Rivera, Republican candidate for Colorado State Senate District 3, will host a meet and greet scheduled at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Pueblo West Library, 298 S. Joe Martinez Blvd.

The event will include discussion about issues related to the upcoming recall election of state Sen. Angela Giron, D-Pueblo, and Rivera’s candidacy as a replacement.

Special attention will be given to Giron’s voting record and support of issues including, but not limited to, gun control, renewable energy and changes in water law.
