D70 to vote on board vacancy
Action will start process to begin filling Sally Pappas’ seat
Pueblo County District 70 board is scheduled to vote Tuesday night to declare the school board seat held by Sally Pappas vacant, setting the process in motion to begin filling her seat.
The board is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. at Administrative Service Center, 301 28th Lane.
Two weeks ago, Pappas submitted a letter of resignation because she is moving to Parker.
Pappas was elected to the board in 2011 and was in the middle of her first term.
Once the board declares a vacancy for Pappas’ seat, members must appoint a replacement within 60 days.
The appointee will serve the rest of her term, which expires in 2013.
If the board does not appoint a replacement in 60 days, then state law allows for the board president to appoint a new member.
In an unrelated matter, the board will vote on several resolutions related to the district’s bond program.
The board will be asked to approve a contract for field lighting at Pueblo County High School and a separate pact for HGF Architects for additional work related to the bond projects.
Ryan Elarton, director of business services, and Monte Montez, construction manager for district bond projects, will give an update report on the progress of the bond projects.
