SHUTDOWN: Printing office workers scheduled to be sent home

A federal shutdown would hit all 24 employees at the Frank Evans Government Printing Office Document Distribution Center at the airport industrial park.

In the event of a shutdown, they will all be furloughed today until further notice, according to an agency spokesman.

The Pueblo workers had been warned they would be sent home without pay in the event a shutdown was in effect today.

Gary Somerset, a GPO spokesman, said about 30 percent of the federal agency’s workforce would be kept on the job, but those employees work directly for Congress and its documents, such as the Federal Register.

The Pueblo printing office doesn’t fall into that category.

“GPO’s Pueblo Distribution Facility will be closed and all 24 employees will be furloughed until the government re-opens,” Somerset said Monday.
