D70 board awards 3 project bids
H.E. Whitlock Construction was awarded bids Tuesday night for three Pueblo County District 70 bond projects.
The school board unanimously approved contracts with Whitlock for work at Desert Sage and Cedar Ridge elementary schools and Pueblo County High School.
The largest of the contracts was $12.7 million for the second phase of work at Pueblo County.
The contract with Desert Sage was $227,763 and the Cedar Ridge contract was for $226,557.
In another bond matter, the board approved fee requests from architects doing work at Pueblo West and Pueblo County high schools.
DLR Group architects received an additional $90,800 for work involved with the changing of plans at Pueblo West.
H+L Architects will receive $162,716 for additional scope of work required at Pueblo County due to fire code requirement changes.
In a separate report on the progress of bond projects, Monte Montez, construction manager for the district bond projects, told the board the majority of the first phase of projects are complete.
The projects included the secured front entrances at the school buildings.
Montez said the district is moving forward with second phase projects.
He said the library at North Mesa Elementary and the preschool room at Vineland Elementary are in the design phase.
“We are moving forward,” he said.
Construction is scheduled to begin soon on the water holding tanks at Pueblo County.
The new addition scheduled to County required the district to update its fire protection plan, per state code.
