Faded orange? OK.
Football isn’t just a boy’s game anymore.
“Women’s apparel has been selling a lot more this year,” said Donnie Garcia, a sales associate at Sports Fanatic in the Pueblo Mall, where the hot-pink jerseys are hard to miss in a sea of blue and orange.
And with the playoffs underway, the store anticipates the women’s jerseys along with other Broncos clothing will stay popular. The Broncos are among the favorites to win the Super Bowl.
“It’s always good when they’re winning,” Garcia said, noting Christmas sales were strong.
Stocking caps — now also known as beanies — are another hot seller, Garcia said.
“I can’t even tell you how fast we’ve sold through those,” he said.
Local stores report they have restocked after the holidays with a large supply of Broncos merchandise, making now a good time to buy.
Think almost everyone’s bought all of the Broncos gear they can imagine, especially after the team went to the playoffs last year? Think again.
Besides newer clothing lines such as women’s jerseys and beanies, traditional Broncos clothes like team jerseys and stadium jackets sell well year after year, stores say.
Sports Fanatic maintains a large supply of John Elway No. 7 jerseys and “we still sell them like crazy,” Garcia said.
There’s also other Broncos merchandise that scores with shoppers..
At Sports Authority in the Pueblo Mall, display shelves near the store entrance tempt fans with scarves, paper plates and cups, glassware, mugs and posters. The store even offers Broncos pencil-and-paper sets.
Fans “are excited. They’re pretty sure we’re going to the Super Bowl this year,” Sports Authority sales associate Shawn Frailey said.
The store also offers a variety of jerseys, jackets and hats. “Over the holidays it was hard to keep them in stock,” Frailey said.
