With new Apple devices comes a new OS

Every time Apple releases a new iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, a new version of iOS is released along with it.

Last week, Apple unveiled two new iPhones that’ll both be released Friday.

Also announced was the release date for iOS 7, Apple’s most radical OS update to mobile devices yet.

If you’re an iOS user, you my have noticed an alert to update your device starting Wednesday.

In order to prepare for the update, you’ll want to make sure you back up your current device and have all the installed apps updated. This will allow for a smoother transition to iOS 7.

You can back up your iPhone by launching the “Settings” app, tapping on iCloud and selecting “Storage & Backup” at the bottom of the list. From there, you can select “Backup Now” and, so long as you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network, your device will be backed up.

To upgrade, launch the Settings app by tapping on “General” followed by “Software Update” and following the prompts. Make sure you’re near a Wi-Fi network and have a power cable to ensure the process is without issue.
