Rivera to be sworn in to Colorado Legislature Oct. 3

George Rivera will officially become state Sen. George Rivera, R-Pueblo, on Oct. 3 at an 11:30 a.m. swearing-in ceremony on the steps of the state Capitol in Denver.

Rivera, the retired Pueblo deputy police chief, won the office on Sept. 10 when a majority of District 3 voters recalled state Sen. Angela Giron, a Democrat.

Rivera will be joined by Bernie Herpin, the Republican who also was elected to replace state Sen. John Morse, D-Colorado Springs, in the recall election.

Pueblo County Clerk Gilbert “Bo” Ortiz posted the official recall election totals on the county’s website Friday.

Final review showed there were 19,451 votes (56 percent) to recall Giron and 15,379 against (44 percent).

Rivera, the only named alternative candidate on the ballot, received 19,391 votes to replace Giron.
