Pueblo West High School pitcher Ashley Thomas was near perfect when she hurled a no-hitter against Centennial in the Cyclones’ 9-0 softball win in South-Central League play.

Thomas, a sophomore right-hander, missed a perfect game when she allowed a walk in the third inning. She finished the game with 9 strikeouts.

Thomas’ performance grabbed the local sports spotlight last week. Other top efforts included:

East softball pitcher Katie Orona, who also owns a no-hitter this season, won the matchup against Thomas later in the week as the Eagles took sole possession of first place in the S-CL with an 11-1 win over PW. Orona stopped the Cyclones on a 3-hitter and struck out 11 batters.

Centennial quarterback Quincy Kindred continued to roll, racking up 179 yards rushing that included four touchdowns to carry the Bulldogs to their fourth straight win of the season.

Pueblo West running back Kaden Willis had the week’s biggest rushing night with a 229-yard performance on 22 carries in the Cyclones’ 39-21 triumph over Widefield. Three of Willis’ runs went for touchdowns as he broke a 50-yarder in the first quarter, then added 23- and 14-yarders.

Quarterback Zac Drury also scored three TDs for Pueblo West on 4, 7 and 24-yard runs.

South running back Garrett Krage found the end zone three times against Palmer Ridge. He had a pair of touchdown runs and a scoring reception.

Centennial cross-country runner Michael Duran broke the 16-minute mark with his second-place finish at the Coronado Invitational. Duran crossed the finish line in 15 minutes, 42 seconds for the 5,000-meter distance.

South golfer Taylor Rodriguez copped medalist honors with a 71 in the City Meet held at Elmwood Golf Course.

Rye’s Sean Daniels rambled for 176 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns, including a 55-yard scamper, in the Thunderbolts 27-14 victory over CSCS.
