After being at the doorstep of playing for the state championship last season, the Pueblo West players and coaches had their sights set on ending this year’s playoff run with a victory for the ages.
However, the players and coaches from Pine Creek had other ideas. The No. 3-seeded Eagles used a balanced offensive attack, an aggressive defensive scheme and superior special teams play to beat the Cyclones 35-18 in the first round of the 4A playoffs last Friday night at District 20 Stadium in Colorado Springs.
The Cyclones most dominate defensive player and kicking specialist Brandon Summer had his senior season cu short by a serious knee injury.
