It’s the perfect time to spring clean your closets – bring all those items to the Pueblo West High School band’s annual garage sale and help turn unwanted goods into funds for the band department.
The garage sale will be April 5 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at San Isabel Electric Association.
All proceeds benefit the band to help with expensive needs.
“The booster club raises money for things like uniforms and equipment,” said Pueblo West High School band director Patrick Smith.
“Over the past several years, we’ve had to buy many additional uniforms, which are about $400 each. These proceeds help offset the cost of the way the band is expanding. It’s a problem, but a good problem to have!”
Smith said the band has more than 80 participants now, and although school funding “generally takes good care of us,” band needs are expensive, so the band department and booster club does the best it can to help with funds.
Some of the larger, expensive or marching band instruments are owned by the department and, over time, get worn out and beat up, so they are rotated out.
A new tuba, for example, can cost $4,000-6,000.
“We have a very good problem in the sense that we’re growing very rapidly, but we’re outgrowing our bank account. Growth is, unfortunately, expensive.”
Anyone in the community who has items to donate to the garage sale is encouraged to do so. Call San Isabel Electric at -2160 to arrange a drop-off time. Then everyone is encouraged to come to the sale on April 5 to find new treasures and support the Pueblo West High School band.
“Historically the community has been very supportive of our garage sale,” Smith said.
San Isabel Electric is located at 893 E. Enterprise Drive.
