Friends of ACOVA will hold its first annual noncompetitive walking event for pets and their owners on Oct. 5 at Lake Minnequa Trail Park.

The walk will start at the Lake Minnequa Trail at the entrance of Pueblo Boulevard and Palmer and continues along the path along the lake.
There will be demonstrations from the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit, obedience training from local businesses, safety preparedness kits for pets and pet contests.
There also is a pre-event Best Pet Contest on Facebook.

The picture with the most likes on the Friends of ACOVA Facebook page will win a prize package donated by local businesses.
Donations and proceeds from the event will be given to Friends of ACOVA, the nonprofit organization for ACOVA.
ACOVA, the victim assistance unit for the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office and the Pueblo Police Department, provides on scene crisis intervention and emotional support to victims of crime and circumstance in our community. It also strives to bring about a greater awareness of resources available in our community.
“We want to ensure that victims aren’t alone and have the resources to aide in their recovery”, said Jennifer Olmstead, Program Coordinator for ACOVA.
The walk begins at 10 a.m., with check-in beginning at 9 a.m.
The walk will feature vendor booths, who will be offering free give-aways and other offers for participants.
Bring your dogs and enjoy a morning of fun with other pet-lovers while supporting a great cause.
All breeds of dogs are welcome. Participants will receive a welcome doggie-bag with a Pet Inside Emergency sticker for your home, informational handouts, a dog food sample and leash donated by event sponsors.
Registration begins at $25 per participant and $20 each additional pet.
