PW Lions Club seeks help with camp cleanup

Call it Lion pride.
Out of the goodness of their hearts, members of the Pueblo West Lions Club are helping to clean up and repair the Colorado Lions Camp, which helps the mentally and physically disabled.
"We're doing it just because it has to be done," said Derinda Bercher, the club's secretary.
Since 1969, the summer camp, located in Woodland Park, has served children and adults ages 8 and up who are blind, deaf, have Down syndrome or are mentally or physically disabled. The camp is held yearly from May 15 through Aug. 15.
Bercher said the camp is open to the public, not just club members. Campers work on self-confidence, team work, personal growth, developing trust and camping skills.
The Pueblo West club is asking the community for help and donation of materials, cash and volunteers. It had collected 56 gallons of paint to begin the cleanup last weekend.
Leona Peters, one of the club's 30 or so members, said they also need hospital mattresses for bed bunks, a large water heater and a covered trailer to transport supplies.
It will be an ongoing project and donations are welcome anytime.
