Final interviews with the four finalists to become the next district manager for the Pueblo West Metropolitan District will begin in two weeks.

Before that, however, the public will get a chance to meet and greet the four candidates. The candidates will be featured in a public event beginning at 7 p.m. May 28 at Skyview Middle School. The meeting had tentatively been set for the Pueblo West Library, but was moved when space was not available.

The four candidates are former Pueblo City Manager Dave Galli, former Catholic Diocese of Pueblo staff member Larry Howe-Kerr, civil engineering firm owner Byron Glenn of Monument and Fremont Sanitation District Administrative Manager Karin Milisavljevich of Penrose.

The finalists were selected from a list of 10 candidates who had made the first cut from the list of 64 individuals who initially applied for the job.

Final interviews will be held June 3 and 4.

One board member said he will not be taking part in all four interviews. Jeff Sloan, who was voted president of the metro board at the May 12 meeting, said he is friends with Howe-Kerr and has sat out of all interviews involving him. Sloan said he would continue to do so, but would also have input into the selection of the next district manager.

The search for a new district manager was made necessary when the metro board fired longtime District Manager Don Saling on March 9, saying he ignored repeated requests to provide them with more information.

Saling said the board, whose makeup changed last May, was prone to micro-managing, and he chafed under the increased scrutiny.

Critics of the metro board launched a recall effort. They urged the board not to hire a new district manager until after the recall election. One faction said the board should wait because its makeup may be different. Another faction said the board should wait because its members want to rehire Saling.
