Mower making bid for coroner
He wants to determine truth about a person’s death
David Mower wants to be Pueblo County coroner.
The 53-year-old Pueblo man says he’s experienced — 16 years as a deputy coroner in Huerfano County — and is a former deputy fire chief for the Rye Fire District. He currently is working as a support engineer at CenturyLink.
“The coroner’s job is to be an advocate for the dead, to make certain the truth about a person’s death is accurately determined,” Mower said Wednesday. “That’s what my goal would be.”
County Coroner Jim Kramer has been elected and re-elected for 37 years, but is retiring this year. He’s been a fixture of local law enforcement — not to mention the Pueblo County Democratic Party — for all those years.
Mower is a Republican and is the only GOP contender for the coroner’s job thus far. It is a well-paid position at nearly $88,000 a year. There is at least one Democrat interested in the office.
“Mr. Kramer did a great job of serving in that office for so long that my ambition would be to keep providing that same kind of service,” Mower said.
