70 Online registration open
Students who would like to attend 70 Online – District 70’s online alternative school – have four upcoming dates to register for the 2014-2015 school year.
Any student, whether they are currently enrolled in 70 Online or new to the school, needs to register.
The dates are May 15, 22, 27 and 28.
70 Online has two brick and mortar campus sites where students go each week for teacher interaction and testing.
One of those sites is in Pueblo West, on the campus of Desert Sage Elementary School.
Students come to the campus locations twice a week and receive direction and support, as needed.
They can come to any additional sessions for support, and also go to the campus locations to take exams.
70 Online follows the K-12 Curriculum for elementary school students, and Aventa for middle and high school students. District 70 employs the teachers for delivery instruction
“70 Online provides opportunities for students who don’t fit the traditional brick and mortar situation, or aren’t successful there,” said Principal Beverly Maestas.
“Maybe they live in outlying areas. Maybe they are students who can’t attend a school every day because they have health issues or children of their own.”
Currently there are about 175 students enrolled in 70 Online, and Maestas said they have 21 potential high school graduates this year.
To register for the 2014-2015 school year, families need to bring the student’s birth certificate, immunization records and a proof of residency item such as a utility bill.
Everyone will get general information upon registration, and anyone new to 70 Online will be scheduled for an orientation in August.
Registration is from noon until 3:30 p.m. on May 15 and May 22. It will also be from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on May 27 and 28 at either 70 Online location.
