D70 awards construction contract
Local contractor T.L. Printz Constructors was awarded a contract Wednesday night to construct additions to South Mesa, North Mesa and Vineland elementary schools.
The Pueblo County District 70 school board approved the $2.1 million bid from the company to complete the classroom additions as part of the district’s $59.5 million bond program.
Construction on the projects will begin this summer.
In approving the bid, Ted Ortiviz, board president, commended the board for following through on its commitment to use local contractors for the bond projects.
“The board made a commitment to spread the work around and its holding true to its word,” he said. “We’re holding firm on our promise to the taxpayers.”
In another bond-related purchase, the board approved spending $154,000 for new furniture for the addition at Pueblo West High School.
The board also agreed to spend $152,000 for 21 new stand-on cleaners that will be used to clean buildings throughout the district.
With the additional space added in the district through the bond projects, the new equipment will make cleaning the buildings more efficient and eliminate the need to hire more staff, according to Ryan Elarton, director of business services.
“Without doing this there is no doubt a significant number of additional staff members would be needed,” he said.
