Eagles donates $1,400 to Kids Crossing
Fundraiser to help buy Christmas presents for local foster children
A generous group at the Eagles Aerie 4471 in Pueblo West have helped make the Christmas season brighter for many local foster kids thanks to a big fundraiser.
Each year the President of the Eagles Auxiliary – this year Jessica Lack – chooses a charity to donate money to, collected this year at the Eagles’ Oktoberfest this fall.
Between a dinner, raffles, silent auction and more, the group raised more than $1,400 that was just given to Kids Crossing in Pueblo.
Kids Crossing is a nonprofit that helps foster families in Pueblo County and surrounding areas.
The donated money will buy Christmas presents for the foster children and help with a Christmas celebration.
“Foster kids really just get overlooked so often,” Lack said.
“We wanted to help them. And people donated things (to the fundraiser), some things worth hundreds of dollars for the auction. It was just incredible.”
To help further, the Eagles also hosted an angel tree at the Pueblo West location with the names of children from Kids Crossing. Members could pick a tag and purchase something for that child to give a little more.
“The motto of the Auxiliary is people helping people, and we always want to help people who are in need,” Lack said.
“The thing that really struck me is on the business card for Kids Crossing, their motto is families helping families.
“This fundraiser obviously just appealed to everybody, because it was our most successful Oktoberfest fundraiser in all our years.”
