Fall sports review

Volleyball

The Cyclones volleyball team extended its winning streak to 10 by beating Palmer 3-2

and Canon City 3-0. The West netters will host Pueblo Centennial at 6:30 p.m. today at Pueblo West High School.

The Cyclones, who remain atop the SCL league standings, will play at Pueblo County on Oct. 15, and host Pueblo Central on Oct. 17

Both games will start at 6:30 p.m.

Softball

The Cyclones softball team is one of five Pueblo teams to earn a spot in the 4A Regional Softball Playoffs. Pueblo West will play in the Region 5 tournament. The No. 14 seed Cyclones will take on Falcon in the first round on Saturday at Ponderosa High School in Parker. Boys Golf

The Cyclones senior golfer Glenn Workman finished third in the 4A State Golf Championship for the second consecutive year. Workman, who had a remarkable golf career at Pueblo West High School, and was an invaluable team leader, will play Division I golf next fall for the University of Wyoming Cowboys.

Cross Country

The Cyclones boys cross country runners are peaking just in time for a run at the state title. Last week the West boys captured another team championship at the Doherty Invitational. The Cyclones girls team also ran strong at Doherty, despite not being at full strength.

Both teams had high expectations for the SLC league meet (ran yesterday at City Park in Pueblo). City Park will also be the site of the Regional Cross Country Meet next Thursday. Oct. 17. The State Cross Country meet will be at the Penrose Equestrian Center in Colorado Springs on Oct. 26.

Boys Soccer

West’s boys soccer team defeated Pueblo Central, 8-1, to remain in a tie with Pueblo South for the SLC league lead. The Cyclones will host Pueblo County at 9 a.m. Saturday at Pueblo West High School. West then travels to Canon City on Oct. 14 for a night game at 6:30, before taking on Pueblo East at 7 p.m. Oct. 16 at Dutch Clark.
