West’s swimmer Coxen qualifies for state

The 2013-2014 season for the varsity girls swim team is wrapping up.

This past weekend they participated in the South Central League meet and took home a second place finish which was a great way to end the season.

“We were expected to take third place but the girls swam really well and we ended up taking second place overall.

“The team that won it, beat us by only seven points.

“The girls did really well and I am extremely proud of them and the season that we have had,” said head varsity Coach Dianne Petkoff.

The state meet is scheduled for this upcoming weekend in Fort Collins at the EPIC Pool.

West only has one swimmer who is qualified for the state meet, Miranda Coxen.

“Miranda is a sophomore this year and she qualified for state in the 200 IM, the 100 butterfly and the 100 back stroke.

“She can only swim in two events at the state meet, so she will be swimming in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly” Petkoff added.

“I am very proud of all that Miranda has accomplished during this swim season and I am very anxious to see what she gets done at state.”

Coach Petkoff is already looking forward to next year’s season and has goals in her sights that she wishes to accomplish.

“Our goal for next year will be to take first place at the South Central League Meet,” Petkoff said.

“We certainly have the talent to accomplish that goal and I am looking forward to next season and capitalizing on that goal.”
