Soccer alumni get call answered

The phone of Cyclones soccer coach Rex Harriman receives plenty of buzz.

Not just from the vibration, but from sports journalist, friends, work. Anyone who takes an interest in his profession.

For quite some time, those interested were alumni of the program.

During the school’s brief history, plenty of talented players graced the field of Dutch Clark and Pueblo West High School.

It is now time for them to lace up their cleats (blow off the dust in some cases), slip those shin guards in those knee-high socks and prepare for one more memory as a Cyclone.

Pueblo West will hold its first annual alumni soccer game June 28 at Pueblo West High School, welcoming back all former soccer players of the program.

Everyone who played soccer for the Cyclones from 1998 until 2014 can participate in the game.

As of June 1, 25 people confirmed they would attend the game.

It won’t only provide entertainment for those who attend, it also provides money for the soccer program.

Each participant pays $25 for the game and those proceeds go toward t-shirts, after-party events and fundraising for Pueblo West High School soccer.

Harriman said while the money raised for the soccer program would be a good thing, the more important aspect of the game was to enjoy a game of soccer and reminisce about old times.

“It’s been 16 years and I have these older players who call to see how we’re doing,” Harriman said.

“That’s when I said ‘You know what? We need to bring these guys back.’”

Harriman also planned to show some of the renovations that West underwent over the past years.

Alumni not familiar with the changes of West can take a tour of the new additions to the school, which includes the added classrooms and the renovated field.

“A tour of the school will be given to anyone interested,” Harriman said.

To those interested in rekindling with the old gang, please call Harriman’s cell at 719-205-2207 for any additional information regarding the festivities.
